2 cups of heavy cream (for whipped cream topping, optional)

Instructions:
In a medium saucepan, whisk together the whole milk, cornstarch, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt.
Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and begins to boil.
Remove the saucepan from heat and pour the mixture into a large glass bowl. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface of the pudding to prevent a skin from forming.
Refrigerate the pudding for at least 2 hours, or until chilled.
In a separate large bowl, beat together the heavy cream and 2 tablespoons of sugar until stiff peaks form. (Optional)
In a large glass dish, layer half of the vanilla wafers on the bottom.
