HOW TO MAKE HOT CHOCOLATE
I’m going to teach you how to make the best hot chocolate at home. Yes, you just read it right; at home you can make a cup of milk with chocolate that is both creamy and delicious.
The recipe I share with you today is for hot chocolate made with cocoa powder. The same unsweetened cocoa powder I use for my Chocolate Pancakes and My Light Brownies,is the one you need to use for this recipe.

HOT CHOCOLATE WITH COCOA POWDER
Unsweetened cocoa powder is not the same as Nesquik or Colacao that one mixes with hot milk for breakfast. Those commercial chocolates are mixed with sugar and stabilizers that won’t work for this recipe.
Cocoa powder is more intense in cocoa flavor and is used for pastries, homemade ice cream, and other beverages.
If you look at the ingredients in the box, there only has to be one: cocoa powder.
HOT CHOCOLATE INGREDIENTS
I know that in the store they sell some powders that you mix with water for a cup of instant chocolate. Why pay more for something very safe you already have at home? For this hot chocolate recipe you will need:
Chocolate recipe
Cocoa powder
Sugar
Water
Pinch of salt
Milk
Vanilla extract
Have you already returned from looking if you have everything at home? Not bad. Now let’s see how it is done.
HOT CHOCOLATE RECIPE
“Let’s whip up this milk chocolate” as I say in my house. A little English, a little Spanish… likewise the hot chocolate recipe is made like this:
On the stove, in a medium saucepan over medium heat, mix the cocoa powder, sugar, water, and salt. Mix well until the sugar has dissolved and you have a chocolate liquid.
Add the milk slowly, and mix well until the milk is very hot but not boiling. At the last minute add the vanilla extract and turn off the heat.
Serve the hot chocolate in 4 cups and enjoy.
CAN YOU MAKE HOT CHOCOLATE IN THE MICROWAVE?
I have not had success making this recipe in the microwave as you have to dissolve in cocoa powder with the sugar at the same time it is heated.
What you can do is increase this recipe and reheat it inside the microwave.
HOW TO MAKE MILK CHOCOLATE
Although this recipe suggests the use of lactose milk (cow’s milk), this ingredient can be easily substituted and make a milk-free and lactose-free chocolate.
For this, replace traditional milk with lactose-free milk, but don’t use water. Replacing milk with water will give you a cup of brown sugar water.
For best results, use:
Oat milk
Soy milk
Rice milk
Coconut milk
Almond milk
